Several weeks of anticipation reached its climax last night as Apple hosted their Far Out Event and introduced us to an array of new Apple products. The event announced the launch of the iPhone 14, iPhone 14 Plus, iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max, as well as other new products including the Apple Watch Ultra.
Communications Plus have reviewed all the information currently available and present all the facts you need to know below.
Introducing the iPhone 14
This time around, Apple is focusing much more on its larger devices and confirmed that there will be no iPhone 14 Mini to succeed their surprisingly unpopular iPhone 13 Mini. Despite dropping the Mini from this generation of iPhone, there will still be four variations of the device.
The four new devices are:
- 6.1inch iPhone 14
- 6.7inch iPhone Plus
- 6,1inch iPhone 14 Pro
- 6.7inch iPhone Pro Max
Apple claims the iPhone 14 is their “most advanced smartphone yet”, offering longer battery life and a range of camera upgrades. The iPhone 14 and 14 Plus have an upgraded 12-megapixel main camera with a brighter flash, wide angle capability and an action video mode that adjusts to remove shaking, motion or vibrations.
Similar to previous launches, the majority of the significant upgrades from this year’s launch were in the pro devices. The iPhone14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max will contain a faster A16 chip and a ground-breaking 48-megapixel rear wide-angle camera system.
All four handsets will come equipped with a larger light sensor in the cameras to enable low-light photography at double the previous generations capability.
The upgraded display of the Pro versions, which operate with a refresh rate as low as 1Hz, boast an always-on display meaning users can see basic notifications while the display is locked. After announcing this new feature, Apple Executive Greg Joswiack said: “it’s easy to see the time and other core information without raising your iPhone or tapping the display. This keeps the central information available for the moments where all you need is just a glance. This is the most advanced display we’ve ever shipped.”
For the first time, the range has left behind the SIM card tray, meaning users will connect to networks and swap SIM cards digitally.
