VoIP Phone Systems

Flexible cloud phone systems for every organisation

Traditional landline phone systems, based on copper cables and on-site desk phones, are being phased out as part of the UK ISDN and PSTN Openreach switch-off in January 2027.

All businesses will need to move to a VoIP-based phone system by then — and we’re here to help you get ready. VoIP is the technology, while cloud phone systems and UCaaS platforms are how it’s delivered. These modern solutions offer better call quality, more flexibility, and the ability for your team to work from anywhere, using an internet connection instead of traditional phone lines.

Most VoIP phone systems are more cost-effective, easier to manage, and far more flexible than legacy solutions. Employees can make and receive calls from their office number whether they’re at their desk, on their mobile, or using a desktop app — without being tied to a physical phone system.

What is VoIP?

A VoIP Phone system is a hardware or software-based telephone system made to use Voice over Internet Protocol (Voice over IP) technology to make and receive calls over an internet connection. The phone seamlessly converts telephone audio into a digital format that can be transmitted via the internet, and converts incoming phone signals to audio that can be heard through your mobile, landline or computer.

A VoIP phone system is a hardware- or software-based telephone system that uses Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) technology to make and receive calls over an internet connection. Instead of using traditional phone lines, calls are transmitted digitally, allowing them to be made and received on desk phones, mobiles, or desktop apps.

With a VoIP phone system, distance is no longer a limitation. Calls can be made to anywhere in the world over the internet, offering reliable connections, lower call costs, and high-quality audio, compared to traditional landline services.

In January 2027, Openreach will switch off the UK’s ISDN and PSTN networks. This means all fixed landline phones — and any services that rely on a phone line, such as alarms, Redcare, CCTV systems, lift phones, and monitoring equipment — will need to move to a digital, VoIP-based solution.

If you’re unsure what your current devices or services rely on, get in touch and our team will be happy to check this for you.

Choosing the right VoIP Phone System

Not every business needs the same type of phone system. While all VoIP solutions use internet-based calling, they can be delivered in different ways depending on how much control, flexibility, and management you require.

Hosted (Cloud) VoIP Phone Systems
Hosted VoIP systems are delivered from the cloud and managed off-site, removing the need for on-premise phone hardware. They’re quick to deploy, easy to scale, and ideal for businesses with remote or hybrid teams. Most organisations choose hosted solutions for their simplicity, reliability, and lower ongoing maintenance.

On-Premise VoIP Phone Systems
On-premise VoIP systems are installed and managed within your own environment, giving you greater control over configuration and data. This approach can suit organisations with specific compliance requirements, existing infrastructure, or in-house IT resources — but typically involves more management and upfront investment.

The right choice depends on how your business operates today, how it plans to grow, and how much responsibility you want to retain for managing your phone system. Our team will help you assess your requirements and recommend the best option for your organisation.
